Eta aquarid meteor shower 2025
The Eta Aquarid meteor shower lights up the night sky each May, with its meteors appearing to radiate from the constellation Aquarius. Its name comes from Eta Aquarii, one of the bright stars in this celestial region. This dazzling display is one of two meteor showers created by the remnants of Comet Halley. As Earth revisits Halley’s orbit in October, it brings forth the Orionid meteor shower, peaking around October 20.
Comet Halley, a cosmic traveler completing its orbit around the Sun every 76 years, last appeared in 1986—and will once again grace our skies in 2061. Under ideal conditions, skywatchers can observe up to 50 meteors per hour, making it a spectacular sight for stargazers.

Get ready for a breathtaking celestial spectacle with Stargazing Mumbai! Join us for a special stargazing event in Bhandardara, where the night sky shines in all its glory, free from city lights. This is your chance to connect with nature and witness the magic of the Eta Aquarids meteor shower in an unparalleled dark-sky location.
Ancient astronomer Ptolemy once believed that shooting stars were divine signs—gifts from the gods watching over mortals and granting their wishes. Today, they remind us of the beautiful blend of mythology and science, inspiring wonder and a deeper appreciation for our place in the cosmos.
