About Stargazing at Mahuli
Stargazing at Mahuli Village is a wonderful experience for anyone who loves nature and astronomy. Mahuli Village is located in the Thane District of Maharashtra, about 75 km north-east of Mumbai. It is surrounded by the Mahuli Fort, a popular trekking and rock climbing destination, and the Tansa Wildlife Sanctuary, a protected forest area with rich biodiversity
The village offers a clear view of the night sky, away from the light pollution of the city. One can see the stars, planets, constellations, and even the Milky Way with the naked eye or with a telescope. The best time to visit Mahuli Village for stargazing is during the winter months when the sky is clear and the weather is pleasant. Stargazing at Mahuli Village is not only a fun and relaxing activity, but also an educational and inspiring one. It can help one learn more about the universe, its wonders and mysteries, and appreciate the beauty and harmony of nature.

Cost will include
- Fees for overnight stargazing sessions.
- Two times tea and drinking water will be available.

- Transportation between Asangaon and Mahuli Farm. Transportation will be arranged by the Stargazing Mumbai team at the additional charge of Rs. 180. The transport vehicle will be a private bus. You will be traveling with fellow stargazing enthusiasts. This bus will run between the Asangaon station and Patil Farm for a fixed period. Another alternative for transportation is auto-rickshaw, which charges anywhere between Rs. 250 to Rs. 450 for a one-way travel. Whoever misses the bus will be responsible for arranging their transport.
- Dinner – The Stargazing Mumbai team will arrange for the dinner at the additional cost of Rs. 260. Food will be prepared by the women in the nearby village. The food plate will have vegetable curry (sabji), Rice Bhakari (roti), rice, daal, Salad, and achar.
- Anything which is not mentioned in the “Inclusive of the charges”.

Those coming by Private Vehicle have to reach before 6:00 pm at Stargazing Mumbai Observation Site
- 5:30 : Head towards the Mahuli Village
- 6:00 : Reach at Stargazing Mumbai Mahuli Observation Site
- 6:30- 7:30 pm: Registrations
- 7:30 – 8:00 pm: Orientation and Introduction to the night sky
- 8:00 – 9:00 pm: Constellation Session I (Learn about Constellations of Evening Sky)
- 9:00 – 10:00 pm: Telescope Viewing I (View Planets, Galaxies, Nebulae, Star Clusters, etc. through our Largest Telescopes)
- 10:00 – 11:30 pm: Dinner Break
- 11:30 – 1:00 pm: Astronomical talk by expert followed by Q&A
- 1:30 – 2:00: Tea Break
- 2:00 – 2:45 am: Constellation Session II (Learn about Constellations of Midnight Sky)
- 2:45 – 4:30 am: Telescope Viewing II
- 4:30 am – Event End
This itinerary and Stargazing are subject to clear skies – in case the skies get cloudy the organisers may not be able to do much and a refund will not be possible.
This being said, keep your fingers crossed for clear skies.
- Private vehicle: People traveling by private vehicle can use Google Maps to reach our location. You can access the link by clicking here.
- Public transport: People traveling by public transport can reach Asangaon station by central railway. We will have a bus ready near the station to take you to the Stargazing Mumbai Mahuli Observation Site. You are expected to reach the Asangaon Station between 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm.
- Carry your id proof like aadhar card, pan card, driving licence.
- Carry warm cloths. The temperature considerably drops during the night time.
- Carry mattress/ carpet/ bed sheet. This is very important since you need to lie down. We will not be able to provide/ arrange for this.
- We will be near forest area so please wear socks and shoes in possible.
- Carry a torch, you will need it in the dark. Also don’t forget to cover it with red cellophane paper (gelatin paper). Do Not Flash Bright Torch or Camera Flash on others during Observation Sessions. Human Eye requires 30 Minutes to completely adapt to the Dark Night Sky.
- Carry your own dinner and water (if unable to do so, please inform us prior to the event). We will also advise you to carry some snacks and soft drinks since you won’t be able to buy anything around the field. Please carry drinking water bottle, you will be able to refill the water.
- Carry your medication and mosquito repellent cream.
- Carry a Diary and Pen in case you want to make note of things.
- Drinking is strictly prohibited. Smoking in vicinity of the site is forbidden.
- You are expected to reach Asangaon station by 4:30 pm. Bus service will be available between 5 pm and 6 pm on Saturday from Asangaon to Patil Farm. On Sunday morning bus will leave Patil farm between 6 am and 7 am for the station.
- For female participants – we have basic facilities for washrooms available. Our team has female members who will be present on the field for entire night.
- This is an educational program and not a luxury trip. All are requested to maintain the spirit of the program and co-operate. No unruly behaviour towards fellow participants will be tolerated.
- Parking facility for private vehicle is available.
- No one should wander off the field. Do not visit the forest area even during the day time.
- Any kind of misbehaviour which causes disturbance to other participants will not be tolerated and immediate action will be taken against the person or the group.
- Important point to remember Stargazing Mumbai is a voluntary base group of some Amateur Astronomers, our aim is to spread and popularise Astronomy.

- Prior Registration and payment is compulsory for all the participants.
- You will be responsible for your personal belongings. If you are carrying telescopes, binoculars, tripods stands, camera etc., then please be careful with your own equipment. We will help you with setting the instruments, if you require it.
- Smoking and Drinking Alcohol is strictly prohibited on the field. Drunken participants will be asked to leave the field immediately. The organisers reserve the right to remove offending participants from the field.
- Stargazing Mumbai is not liable in any form for any kind of medical emergencies during the event.

What is difference between mahuli and dehane event?
Dehane event focuses more on observational astronomy and astrophotography. We focus on deep sky object viewing. We have a smaller group for dehane compared to Mahuli. Dehane is all inclusive package. It includes meals, stay in the tent and transportation from Asangaon station and back. This session is for the people who want to dive into stargazing, camping and astrophotography.

Do we have washrooms and drinking water?
Yes, we do have basic amenities available like washrooms and drinking water available. Please carry you bottle to refill water.

What about Security?
The area is fenced and we take care of the security around the field. If you wander off the field it won’t be our responsibility.

Do we have mosquitoes?
We do not face mosquito problems but it it advised to carry mosquito repellent.

Are tents available at Mahuli?
No. We do not have tent facility at Mahuli Event.

Who can attend the program?
Anyone who is interested to learn or enjoy stargazing can attend the this program. No prior knowledge is required.

Overnight Stargazing and Camping Ticket- ₹450/ ticket
- Includes only Overnight Stargazing charges
Transportation Ticket – ₹ 200/ ticket
- Include the traveling fees (between Asangaon station and Patil farm)
Dinner Ticket – ₹260/ ticket ( Limited Thali: 1 Bhakari, Rice, Dal, 2 Sabji, Salad, Papad, Achar)

Please do not forget to carry an e-ticket (recommended, let’s save the trees) or hard copy.
We do not get network on the field so please download the ticket or take a screenshot in case of e-ticket. If you have questions, kindly go through our FAQ page. If your questions are still not answered feel free to call us.
- If Event cancellation done by participant by any time 5% amount will be deducted.
- If Event cancellation done by participant prior to 10 days of Event 60% of total price will be refunded.
- If Event cancellation done by participant prior to 5 days of Event 50% of total price will be refunded.
- After that no refund will be provided on Event cancellation done by participant, irrespective even if you’ve booked within the last 5 days.
- Event Tickets cannot be transferred to another date against cancellation.
- If event gets canceled we will refund Event amount only.
